What is Microcurrent Point Stimulation (MPS) Therapy?

Microcurrent Point Stimulation (MPS) Therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses gentle, low-level electrical currents applied to specific points on the body to help reduce pain, calm the nervous system, and support the body's natural healing processes.

Unlike traditional electrical stimulation devices such as TENS units, MPS uses microcurrent, which is measured in millionths of an amp and is often below the threshold of sensation. These low-frequency electrical impulses are applied to acupuncture points, trigger points, scar tissue, and areas of tension using a handheld device called the Dolphin Neurostim®.

MPS Therapy combines principles from modern neuroscience, pain science, acupuncture, and connective tissue therapy. The goal is not simply to mask symptoms, but to help regulate the nervous system, improve communication between the brain and body, and address patterns that may be contributing to persistent pain, tension, or dysfunction.

Many individuals living with chronic pain develop changes within the nervous system over time. The brain and body can become more sensitive to pain signals, even after tissues have healed. MPS Therapy is designed to help "reset" these patterns by providing gentle neurological input that may help decrease pain sensitivity and promote a more balanced nervous system response.

MPS Therapy may be used as a standalone treatment or integrated into a comprehensive rehabilitation plan alongside manual therapy, movement, exercise, nervous system regulation strategies, and pelvic health treatment.

Potential Benefits of MPS Therapy

  • May help reduce chronic and acute pain

  • Supports nervous system regulation

  • May decrease muscle tension and protective guarding

  • Can be used to address scar tissue and adhesions

  • Non-invasive and drug-free

  • Comfortable treatment with little to no sensation

  • Often complements other rehabilitation and manual therapy techniques

Conditions That May Benefit from MPS Therapy

  • Chronic pain syndromes

  • Hypermobility spectrum disorders and hEDS

  • Pelvic pain

  • Scar tissue restrictions

  • TMJ dysfunction

  • Neck and back pain

  • Headaches and migraines

  • Sciatica

  • Tendon and overuse injuries

  • Post-surgical pain and adhesions

  • Dysautonomia-related nervous system dysregulation (POTS, Long COVID, etc)

  • Persistent muscle tension and myofascial pain

How We Use MPS Therapy

At Intuitive Therapies & Pelvic Health, MPS Therapy is integrated into a whole-person treatment approach. Rather than treating pain in isolation, we evaluate how the nervous system, connective tissue, movement patterns, breathing mechanics, and lifestyle factors may be contributing to symptoms.

MPS Therapy is often combined with manual therapy, corrective exercise, nervous system regulation strategies, scar tissue treatment, and patient education to help improve comfort, function, and overall quality of life.

Many of the individuals we work with live with conditions such as hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS), Dysautonomia / POTS, chronic pelvic pain, endometriosis, and chronic pain syndromes. These conditions often involve heightened nervous system sensitivity, muscle guarding, and ongoing stress on connective tissues.

Because MPS Therapy works through the nervous system, it can be a valuable tool for helping calm protective responses, reduce pain sensitivity, and support a more regulated state. While it is not a cure for these conditions, it may help create an environment where the body feels safer, moves more comfortably, and responds more effectively to rehabilitation.

Why MPS Can Be Helpful for Hypermobility (hEDS/HSD), Chronic Pain, and Nervous System Dysregulation
